Current Insurance Options / Premiums

I'm now looking into insurance for my PPC and thought I would post all my research / findings here for anyone else that may be interested.

I'd also like to hear what insurance you have researched / used for your PPC.

So far in researching, I've found the various types of coverage (liability for property / passenger, storage, ground only, flight and ground) and then several companies such as Morrow, JMB, EAA, USUA.

I will be calling / emailing these agencies to get quotes and will post back once I get them.

I just insured my trailer today by adding it to my auto policy. For $90 / year and a $100 deductible, I was able to ensure my trailer for $4500. Seems reasonable since now if anything goes wrong while towing it (construction walls, wreck, etc) or while it's in storage (hail / wind / theft) I can get it repaired for $100 out of pocket. My agent said that my homeowners insurance will cover things in the trailer, but specifically excludes aircraft.

--------------------------------------------------
QUOTES
--------------------------------------------------
Morrow Insurance
Flight / Stored / Transport Coverage
$250 Deductible; $865 Annual Premium
Stored / Transport Only
$250 Deductible; $650 Annual Premium
--------------------------------------------------

Re: Current Insurance Options / Premiums

Hmmm... I've bought special insurance for RV trailers before, but I was under the impression that my car insurance covered any 'general' trailer I was towing.

This is the TRAILER only. Not the aircraft.

Hmmm... Maybe I'd better read my policy.

Re: Current Insurance Options / Premiums

Travis,

Thanks for doing all this research! It's something I have been meaning to jump back on myself but haven't had the time lately. Reporting all your findings, details, pricing and exclusions, etc. is greatly appreciated. It should be a big help to everyone here.

I'm in the process now of re-shopping my homeowners and auto insurance and I can tell you there are HUGE variances in coverage, price and exclusions out there so I imagine this will likely be very similar. Gotta read everything with a fine tooth comb these days and ask: "tell me what it DOESN'T cover" too. I just wish I could find a reasonable "blanket" policy that covered me, the family and EVERY thing I own, including a PPC.

My auto policy covers the trailer at no additional cost.

Re: Current Insurance Options / Premiums

According to my agent, I believe he said my auto insurance would cover the trailer for liability purposes, but the comprehensive insurance would not apply so it would not be covered in storage (theft, hail, etc) or if it was damaged in an accident.

I'll double check with him today what exactly I am adding for $90 / yr to make sure I understood correctly.

We have always had State Farm insurance coverage and it used to cover any trailer you hooked up to. That has changed quietly over the years (I say quietly as I was never informed of the change) and we no longer have coverage on the property that we can tow unless we buy a separate policy. I believe the comment about liabilities while towing is still correct and would be covered by a blanket liability policy. Now we have switched to American Family as I found a good agent and their rates saved me $1500/year.

I learned of this by asking the question before I had an incident. Although the week I added insurance to my trailer I needed to use it......thanks to a huge pothole in the road in Arkansas.
