The accelerated course is a great if you can schedule the time. I offer a 12 to 14 day accelerated flight training course. I can travel to your location or you can come here (Florida). Send me an email if you would like to discuss it. You can also visit my website for details.

Re: I would like to become a CFI
Well Damn poop and poo diddly doo dump! I just found out from the FAA that I have bought a lightly used white elephant. It turns out the original owner did not make the deadline for registering this bird in the SLA category and managed somehow to register it in the extremely restrictive Experimental Exhibition category.
I have two choices. Be tied to a single airport and fly a lot of "maintenance" or find another airframe. This is discouraging but not the end of the road for me. I will fly! Any one got an N numbered airframe for sale cheap? |

Re: I would like to become a CFI
It's not as restrictive as it sounds. You're not tied to one airport. If you want to fly from another airport, you fax them a letter saying where you'll be flying that day. There are a lot of warbirds that fall into the ExExh catagory and they go to many airshows.
The only real difference is that you will need to find an A&P to do your annuals. You'll have to find one willing to do it, then hope it's not too expensive. yak55x on this forum went through the process, send him an email or PM. Also, read this thread, there's a lot of good info in it: Experimental Exhibition Quote:

Rocken,
I see you're in Pa. My buddy is an A&P lic inspector who is good to go on inspecting PPC's as well. He's in the Newburg NY area but does travel to other airports As I recall he get's $250 per inspection -- and cheaper if he can do more then one in a trip --if that helps. Rich K |

One thing that you won't be able to do is to ever instruct in it. No LODA would be issued for an experimental exhibition. Last I heard on this is that the only planes that will be eligible for a LODA would be ones that had the provision in their operating limits to do training prior to the 1/31/10 deadline. Anyone buying or who bought a used ELSA hoping to get a LODA will not be happy, because that is not going to be allowed in the guidelines I have heard about. You know what I know now about this.

Well, not being able to get a LODA because of the status of the paperwork seems to be less of an issue when you realize they aren't issuing LODAs for aircraft that do have all the paperwork in correct status. Dave submitted three times, and on the third pass, he even pointed out Red's LODA to the local FSDO guys. Still a no-go. He ended up buying an SLSA to keep his livelihood. So, yeah, a LODA is absolutely locked out for Ex/Ex... but if they aren't issuing them anyway... ![]()

Re: I would like to become a CFI
I am a PPC CFI. It sounds like you are getting some great advice. I have an Infinity 2 place with dual controls and rear shutoff switch. Here is the kick. The FAA ruled that you can no longer give instruction in an ELSA PPC. Now here is the problem. I used to give intro flights and instruction in my machine until the new ruling went into effect. The question is what made my machine any less safe than it was the day before the ruling went into effect? Ok , that said there is hope. I applied for a LODA from the FAA with the help of the EAA to get a letter of deviation authority which will allow instruction in an ELSA on a case by case basis. He is the other kick. I can provide flight instruction in a students machine if it has dual control. Most student machines only have dual throttle at best with no kill switch for safety. WOW. Seems like my machine is much safer. I am hoping the FAA will see the light and allow exemptions for the hand full of ELSA trainers. It is had enough to find a CFI. I had to go to Florida. Some people travel all over the country. Wish you the best
Stay safe |

Keep us posted on your LODA. I'd really like to know if anybody but Red gets one.

The reason most FSDO's are not issuing LODA's is because AFS-610 told the not to until the proper guidance is issued. it is a slow process but I have heard it is coming, though I am not holding my breath.

Re: I would like to become a CFI
I have to thank all of you guys for the excellent counsel. It has been comforting in this rather discouraging beurecratic process. The good news is I have made arangments with a CFI and training starts today! I'm jazzed. It will be good to get back up in the air under legal and supervised conditions.
I am hoping I can get the FAA to allow me to train in my aircraft once we get done playing hoop jump fetch dawg. I was begining to feel like even though I thought I was at least educated enough to purchase a plane that I had made a serious error and had been taken for a fairy ride. Thank goodnes it was just another paper pushers idea of how to keep me occupied. ;-) |
