I'm against anti-noise
I live about two miles from the airport and right in the main flight path. All kinds of planes go over all the time (727s, 737s, 757s, 767s, some airbuses, and prop-planes). I don't understand why people have a problem with aircraft noise. An aircraft goes over ever 5 minutes and I don't ever notice.

Re: I'm against anti-noise
People that live close to an airport and complain about noise are crazy. They shouldn't have moved there in the first place.
I too live near a major airport, Kansas City International. When the winds are out of the east or west, we are right in the flight path and get a lot of traffic. I had to sign special papers when buying my house that addressed aircraft noise. |

Re: I'm against anti-noise
Bruce,
I totally agree with you but the problem is these butt heads can stop us from flying especially on private fields. All they have to do is have some freinds at the local township official level and they will pass laws at the local level to kick you out of the air. I am greatly concerned because I live in an area in NJ that is quickly getting built up and for every100 people that see me fly, there will be two that bitch just because that's their hobby and they have to stay sharp. I would like to know what can be done to quiet these machines without killing all the power. Are four strokes the answer, multi blade props , different gear boxes, I need to know because it is just a matter of time befroe we get shot out of the sky. We have stopped flying in the morning all together just because of the noise issue. Any ideas? JT |

Re: I'm against anti-noise
It's very hard for anyone to do anything at the local level. Many have tried and if you hear they're considering it, join the AOPA as quickly as possible. They will fight for you. If it's privately owned and the owner agrees to close it, nothing you can do. If he's willing to fight, not much the city can do. Cities typically build schools and parks near airports, then try to complain that we don't care about the children! They try to pass laws governing our flight, only to have the FAA tell them it's not their jurisdiction. Typically though the FAA doesn't search for cities creating rules, you have to make them aware.
There are plenty of guys here who have fought this battle, you will get good advice. Don't give up, prepare to fight. Quote:

Re: I'm against anti-noise
If you fly from an existing airport, they will buy the land around you because it's cheaper, then they will fight to get the airport closed.

Re: I'm against anti-noise
Huale,
So far, in my area of NJ , I have had one complaint from a cronic complainer in 10 years of flying here. Let's face it -- the complainers lawn mower and weed cutter makes more noise then we might on any given day and far more often -- but you'll never see their lawn not mowed ! I told them as I'll tell any -- Don't build on a septic system if you don't like the smell of crap ! They built near an airport and knew it was there when they did ! Rich K |
